What is a Cryotherapy Session Like?
Not sure what to expect when you visit us for Cryotherapy? After you complete a simple medical waiver, you’ll head to a private changing room. Our Cryotherapy Chamber uses sub-zero temperatures to deliver cold therapy, so you’ll need to protect your extremities from the cold! This is why we will provide you with a pair of thermal socks and gloves to use during your Cryotherapy session. Some people simply wear their shorts or other workout clothes, but we’ll provide you with a robe if you prefer a little extra coverage.
Once you’re changed into your protective gear, you’ll head back to our proprietary Cryotherapy chamber. You will then enter the chamber where you’ll stay for up to 3 minutes. Don’t worry, a licensed Cryotherapy Operator will be there to guide you every step of the way!
Not sure you can make it the full session? No worries! A healthy Cryotherapy practice may be something you work your way up to, gradually increasing the time you’re able to spend in the chamber each visit. In general, it will feel like standing outside on a very cold winter day!
After you get out, you’ll feel energized, alert, and may even experience a bit of a mood boost.
How Does Cryotherapy Work?
The C-Spot offers a Whole-Body Cryotherapy. This will expose the entire body from the neck down to sub-zero temperatures inside of a chamber. As the body is exposed to these chilly temperatures, it enacts a natural fight or flight response that constricts blood vessels to restrict blood away from extremities. This redirection causes your body to move blood toward the core, protecting your organs. During this process, the body increases its levels of oxygen and certain proteins that can decrease swelling. When you exit the Cryotherapy chamber and return to normal room temperature, this oxygen-rich blood moves back through the body. A Cryotherapy session can last up to 3 minutes – but may have an afterburn effect of up to 600 calories over the course of 24-48 hours! Using controlled natural stressors, you build up your body’s natural well-being.
How to Prepare For Your Session
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
You must be DRY for a whole-body cryotherapy session- body, hair, and underwear!
WHAT TO WEAR
Lightweight fitted shorts or underwear are perfect to either wear in or bring with you.
Men usually go shirtless and ladies wear a sports bra. Please make sure that all items of clothing are free of any metal that may touch your body.
We will provide gloves, socks, and a robe for entering and exiting the chamber.
DURING YOUR SESSION
We will walk you through the process.
A staff member will stand outside of the chamber the entire time you are in it. If at any point you want to step out you can simply push the door open.
When your 3-minute session is over we will open the door for you to exit.
AFTER YOUR SESSION
Get dressed, place your used clothing items in the hamper and you’re all set!
When you finish your cryotherapy session it is important to let your body do the work to return itself to its regular temperature, burning calories and increasing blood flow/circulation.
Some individuals experience slight chills and a tingly sensation for a short time after as their body gets back to baseline temperature. Light exercise right afterwards to get your blood pumping can help your body get back to regular temperature. You will feel AMAZING!
